The Origin of Political Species

A NEW BOOK BY Robert Haston

About the Book

Text Box: Among the mountains of books written about politics or evolutionary genetics, I have only found two books that discuss the connection between the two.
As you would expect, they were unabashed attempts by a conservative and a liberal to gain modern political ground.
They were both based on the idea that our political instincts have a singular origin that is primordial - stemming mainly from our apelike ancestors.

The Origin of Political Species is not only just the first book to delve deeply into the issue. It is the first to ask where our two distinct political traits come from. Evidence is mounting that our mix of conservative and liberal traits evolved before and after the great “creative explosion” of modern man starting 80 thousand years ago.
Genetic studies in 2007 showed that man’s evolution sped up by nearly 100 fold during this period. Human culture was rapidly changing the world, and the world was rapidly changing human cultural genes.
Alongside the traditional warrior strode new phenotypes—the diplomat, the artist, and the intellectual. Together they fused tiny clans into larger and larger empires, creating the world we live in today.
